Meaford, ON’s Electric Eclectics Lines Up HEALTH, AIDS Wolf and MYTHS for Fifth Annual Festival
3/30/2010 By David Dacks
Electric Eclectics, one of the most offbeat music festivals in Canada, has released the line-up of its fifth annual event, which will take place in Meaford, ON from July 30 to August 1.
This year’s featured artists include thick slabs of noise from HEALTH, AIDS Wolf and MYTHS, avant-songcraft from Fancie and Friendly Rich & the Lollipop People, and indescribable, gotta-be-there artistry from Internet phenom Let’s Paint TV, amplified balloon player Ricardo Arias and circuit bending pioneer Nicolas Collins. Previously announced acts include Danger Bay, Six Heads, Gardenia, the Allison Cameron Band, Toddler Body and Transmorphus Sound Ensemble.
Electric Eclectics is a proper pitch-your-tent experience, but its musical offerings are much more diverse than your average sun-baked beerfest. Organized by Chris Worden, Laura Kikauka and Gordon Monahan (who Exclaim! recently profiled here), the festival is more of an outdoor art gallery with multiple on-site installations, workshops, DJ tent and a film program. Tiny Meaford, near Owen Sound, is a picturesque setting for a crowd that’s among the most respectful to be found at any music festival. The whole shebang, including camping, is priced at $65 (day passes are also available).
The film festival will showcase a performance from renowned Canadian experimental director Peter Mettler. Media artists Marla Hlady, Paul Walde and Christof Migone will be mounting installations. And just to keep you on your toes, performance artist Andrew Harwood will add one of many X factors to the proceedings: his alter ego Madame Zsa Zsa will dispense fortune telling and psychic readings to the audience.
More artists, DJs and details of workshops will be announced soon. Check the Electric Eclectics website for updates and ticket information.
